Saturday 25 October - Salford MAG have a demo run as part of a profile raising effort to get motorcycle access to bus lanes acros GMPTE area. Also raising awareness and campaigning against the installation of Armadillo lane separators for some existing and proposed cycle lanes.
Campaigning against the installation and redesign of road sections to make it more likely that motorcycles and cars / lorries will be pushed into the same road space.

The MAG group have arranged for a rock DJ and probably some grub to be available afer the run is over. That will be at the Duke of York in Eccles, their base. The run won't be under police supervision or similar, so has been arranged to take in as few red lights as possible. Will stop and regroup after each set of lights that does separate it. Will also be a learner friendly ride in terms of route and speed, should even suit mopeds OK.

Just got this from the BMF.

    Dear Kevin
    Salford Armadillos
Those of you that live in or near Salford may be aware of the invasion of Armadillos in the city recently. No, not the armoured, ant eating, four legged variety but rather the potentially dangerous, lane marking, raised devices, used to separate cycle lanes from the main carriage way.
    Download pictures
The BMF has been aware of the Armadillos for some time now. Indeed, Graeme Hay, our Government Relations Executive, has been in communication with the Department of Transport and Salford City Council expressing our concerns over these devices. As with many things though, the more people that complain about something, the more likely something will be done about it. So, with that in mind when we received this email from Steve Blay, the Salford MAG rep, we all agreed that it would be great if BMF members could support him.
I am the Salford MAG Rep, & I would like to discuss your current activity around the Salford Armadillos, as I am holding a Demonstration ride on the 25th October & would like to invite BMF members along to join in & support our opposition to these pieces of road segregation. I hope we can work together on this one as I am sure you are aware that Salford is just one of Nine boroughs within the GMPTE that will be getting Cycle lanes edged by these potential Killers. Once they are established here they will be spread out amongst the rest.
    Regards
    Steve Blay
So, if possible, take your BMF badges and banners to join Steve and his fellow MAG members at the Henry Boddington on A666 Bolton Road Pendlebury M27 8TG on 25th October at 11.00am leaving 12 noon and show that the motorcycling community is working together towards a safer environment for all vulnerable road users.

Not wanting to start argument, just curious. Why are these armadillo things any more dangerous than say a kerb? Given the choice I think I'd rather land on one of those PVC thing than a concrete kerb

One reason is a kerb tends to follow the full length of the road and easy to spot and predict by comparison. Try spotting one of these randomly spaced in heavy traffic on a wild, windy and wet winters night. They can be obscured by all manner of road side furniture or other traffic. Next councils will be putting them down the centre of the road a cheap alternative to central reservations or traffic islands.

Hmm, with all the visibility markings & white lines they have can't say I'd agree. But I'll leave it at that so as not to drag your meet up off topic, you have the right to go voice your opinions and all that
