im wondering how much getting the head gasket done on a 2009 1.2 vauxhall corsa should cost? the Mother in Laws car looks like it needs doing so wanted to get an idea of price so if any cowboys quote her well over the odds I can stop her being scammed. cheers
Compression test or sniff test it first. I have a compression tester that you can borrow to ensure that is the head gasket.
symptoms are: engine overheating, checked coolant level, was low so topped up, no leaks that I can see and after a few days was low again. oil leak, not pissing out but its noticeable so checked oil level, looks ok but was emulsified so check filler cap and also emulsified. mother in law says its been "burning petrol" lately too.
Compression test, coolant pressurization test or sniff test are the only ways to certify I have had some emulsification in the past that just went away.
