I know the answer is probably get a bigger bike, but....

I have a 125 and I don't have the spare cash at the moment to get my DAS or a new bike so figured I may be able to do something with my current machine. My main question is about where things lie legally - I know its "up to 125cc" that us learners are allowed but isn't there some rule about 33bhp as well? I reckon mine is going to be around the 12bhp mark at the moment.

    Thanks!

If you pass your bike test, then you can ride a bike up too 33hp, you can not ride a bike over 12hp as a learner

there are ways to make it go faster by derestricting it, but its obviously illegal for your licence type, so not advisable to do it and less so to get caught

cheers mate, think I may just go with "super unleaded" see if that makes a difference. (I presume this will work and isn't illegal?)

Let us know if you think you are getting an improvment from Super Unleaded?

If you want a quicker 125 sell the YBR and get a two stroke, they are much easier to tune and get decent power out of them.

Aprila RS125 come to mind for that, I had about 100 mph out of an import one

2 Stokes, particularly ones that small just sound like hair driers to me. I think if I change bike it will be for a bigger one. Just wondered if there was anything I could do in the meantime. Nearly emptied my tank so going to try super unleaded next time see if that helps at all.

it wont go quicker with super unleaded in. it will just be more efficient.

If you want to go faster, get your test done and get something bigger :)

Been here with my 50cc when i was at college flix - and that was a two stroke.

Basically tom (falcon) is right, there isnt much you can do, they will only go so fast. Ive derestricted the monster derbi and apparently im supposed to be running 24bhp - sure its fast and alot of fun but it goes pop for fun, so not sure if its worth it.

Save for the DAS, its the only way it can be done. Plus, the step up will feel mint due to the power gain.

    ** Edit **

Oh and i tried super in mine for about a week, didnt notice any difference so switched back again.

cat is taking a fair bit of the power, probably not worth removing it though

I think your right guys - save up and get a bigger bike.

Falcon - you said it would be more efficient, so maybe do 0-60 in less that a month if its got super unleaded?

No, it might get an extra 1-2 miles out of a normal fuel tank though lol. not worth the extra paid for the super unleaded :>

Oh I understand. Haha - bothered about two miles. I get nearly 300 miles out of a tank anyway.

How big is the tank on your bike?
