Well I haven't seen @Fatbob on here for a while. I am confident he will read our comments and consider them. For me, it's another year and however just our scab picking maybe, I am leaving it to heal now.
I'm unconvinced that a Twitter or Facebook persona is appropriate for a forum. By definition a forum is a collective, not an autocracy. The mods/admin are primarily there just to create a framework for the whole thing to hang off and to do the cleaning/janitorial work. A Facebook or Twitter account is an individual voice, normally either because (a) it's the page/account of an individual, (b) it's a commercial "persona"; or (c) a civic service distributing information. None of these apply to the NWB community or forum. Given the "hands-off"/passive approach that we've taken to moderation or "control" (as some individuals would have it), and the positive results that have come from that, I (personally) don't think it would then be appropriate to empower a single voice to speak on behalf of, or represent, the whole. We have a staff section where we generally discuss issues before formal decisions or announcements are made on the collective wisdom that the input of many people is always better than unilateral and discretionary decisions being made by any single individual. A Twitter or Facebook account seems somewhat contradictory to that concept. Lastly, we don't need to "market" or "sell" NWB via another medium - it is, always has been, and (hopefully) always will be just the collective rambling and personae of its membership. Sometimes it's busy, other timew it's quiet, but trying to gain more members won't solve your perceived "problem". We already have circa 1,900 now, so volume isn't a solution - simply coming on here and engaging with other people is the solution. I know what you mean Richie about me wafting around in my car for the last year or 2. Since changing bikes and having a couple of projects on the go, and finding myself in a new relationship, I've either been (a) with spare time but no roadworthy bike (so have come out in the car); or (b) simply without free time (so have disappeared). My bike situation's just about sorted now so will hopefully be out plenty more in 2015 In terms of engaging here on the forum, I and all other mods/admin have been relentlessly targetted/bitched about/sniped at/backstabbed by certain members over the last couple of years. Some have ultimately decided to absent themselves from the forum but you'll still find that every single longstanding member who becomes mod or admin have generally taken a bit of a step back as then when the shit hits the fan (as it invariably does occasionally) you're more impartial (hopefully, depsite the accusations that always follow a flare-up, just like night follows day...).
I think a twitter and facebook pages/account are a good thing for the site even if just for updating site info for example when the sites down fo;'r maintenance, not that I use facebook lol but I know a lot on here do.
So it's a no for Facebook, a no for Twitter and a no for tapatalk too. Some democracy this is ! Roll on March the 1st
