Well me and the missus were at a loose end for my first real weekend off in ages, that is, until we were offered free passage to ireland as guest of the captain on the stena line earlier in the week courtesy of her brother in law! The weather report looked set to be good so i dutifully set about on my last 6 days of work, as the week went on, the weather report became more and more bleak, to the point that it was supposed to be lashing it down all sunday when we arrive for the day. Saturday came, Feeling rather unexcited about the whole journey i made the trip to liverpool in the pouring rain to meet Georgia, we met up, had a brew and set off on the now dry roads to the docks. We arrived before he majority of the vehicles arrived, Fran, The captain, (Georgias brother in law) came out to meet us and stayed until we boarded and tethered down the bikes. And now for the (up to now) highlight of the trip, we were put in Stena plus, where we were treated to the best slap up meal i've had in a long time, Georgia with Fish and chips, myself with a Medium rare Ribeye steak washed down with a few glasses of cabernet. We then stayed up in the bridge until we entered the open sea and there was nothing more to see, the next morning, at 5am, as arranged we were woken to come and stay in the bridge as the ship docked, as we arrived in the bridge, much to our surprise, it was dry outside! We left the ship after a hearty full english breakfast onto the crisp, moist irish roads, still expecting the worst from the weather, we headed towards the giants causeway for some sightseeing, taking the inland route to avoid coastal winds ect, we went along the A2 taking in the sights all arounds, we passed some fantastic woodland and hills, but i muat admit i was more than glad when we dropped down onto the B66 which was slightly more uneven and technical. We arrived at the causeway for 11am, sat down with a bite to eat and admired the fantastic views Seeing as it was only 11am, and we werent due back at the ferry until 9pm, we decided to take the coast roads back down, and my word, theres only one way to describe it, it was visual porn! From these roads we then went over the A43, through the ballymore forest, if you haven't been i can only say you are missing out on something very, VERY special! Waterfalls on eitherside as you throw your bike in for a tight left hander followed instantly by an even tighter right hander, it perfection at its finest. And to top it off, despite the forecast, the sun stayed out ALL day! As we boarded the ship home, and settled down for the night, my only regret was that i'd come on the cbf, and not the Sv, i can't help but feel that with its low down grunt and superlight feel, i'd of enjoyed myself far more on the twisties. But, after this weekend, i shall be back again, and if you haven't been yet, i cannot recommend it enough! And on a side note, irish bikers DO NOT NOD!!! :wide:
