In short, I want to fit a single sided swing arm to my Hornet. Before I get bogged down with the ifs / buts / hows, I wondered -

Once it is fitted what do I have to do with the bike to get it back on the road legally - -i.e are there any tests / inspections which need to be passed?

    Thanks

It'll need to be MOT legal.
You'll also need to declare it to your insurance. They'll probably order an engineers report at your cost. Probably worth having a chat with them first to understand the budget. At the end of the day, if it fails they'll have to pick up the bill. If you don't tell them, they'll still cover your damages to third party, but may come looking for the dosh retrospectively and IMHO, quiet rightly so.

...also check out the Hornets Nest - http://www.hondahornet.co.uk (I'm a mod on there) - Steve 370 and one or two others have done this mod - not for the faint hearted but doable - VFR 750/800 / CB1R back ends are the starting point - cabs is right about the insurance element which you do need to get cleared ...

    good luck

....I reckon you can get all the second hand parts for about £500 (incl wheel and shock) but its the fabrication and fitting that requires a lot of input - but I suppose for what you get at the end, it's not too bad if you use second hand Honda parts ...could be up to a grand if you need someone to do a lot of it plus things likes spacers, bearings etc....

It was on there that I got the idea - but only looked on my phone. Ive got the thread (fun in the shed) saved on my emails, need to have a propper look but thought I'd see about the real ball ache before starting out.

My boss owns a machine shop so I reckon the suspension bracket / mod shouldn't be too much hastle. There is a VFR swingarm on flea bay with wheel going cheap (ish) at the minute, as well as an original Hornet swingarm.

If the hornet one goes for the right price I might get that and us mine as the donor (mine is scratched).

I need to look into it more, but just chewing the fat at the minute while Im off work. Once Im back in work Ill look into it `propper` :) at least then ill get paid for it :)

Spacers etc shouldnt be too bad - I work for a german machine manufacturer and as above my boss has a machine shop, Im more bothered about the hastle of getting it back on the road.

Also Im torn between doing this OR using the money on a deposit for a new bike....decisions decisions.......

    It would look nice though......

money towards a new bike, simple as. going single sided arm will only add weight to the bike as well.

What year hornet. I've fitted a VFR800 arm to a 07 hornet piece of cake but turns out expensive when you get all the bits you need

gotta agree with Carl. money spend on this Hornet won't increase it by loads,if your thinking of selling and making a bigger profit…at the end of the day its still a hornet! 2015 is here in a few hours…..new year , new bike!

Yes I have a couple I will attempt to put them on here. Not put pics up before but I'll have a go. It looks superb I sold bike to a guy early this year he's a regular up rivi on it gets lots of attention I'm on with doing same to a 900 blade for a bloke that saw the hornet. It runs out quite expensive the hornet was more expensive than the blade because of parts prices and availability you need the arm a wheel a chain brake pipes alter torque bar and linkage rear pegs depending on personal taste spacers etc etc list gets quite long and price mounts up especially if you have to pay some one else to do things for you

My uncle Derek has gone it twice, an RVF 400 swing arm is pretty close, offset it, machine down a Ducati rear rim to counteract the ofset and it's pretty simple. As you said- less than £500 easily
