Was looking at one of these a while back but couldn't justify the price for how much id use it. How are you finding it?

Ended up getting an opinel no3 to take out with me, which lives on my keychain (brilliant knife considering its size...held its edge brilliantly), and an opinel no10 for my camping bag which Ive since started to use in the kitchen lol. Opinel are really underrated general use blades in most of the world ( the french love them though). Not really suitable for heavy use mind you but I use my no3 almost daily.

In the survival knife category at this sort of price, id be looking at a gerber lmf, cold steel srk, esee series 3,4 or 5 (eepending on the size your after), becker companion. There are many others that ive probably forgotten about. These are just what I've handled myself off the top of my head and can vouch for as well made.

I carry it most days so well worth the money as I always have a knife in my pocket, I love the spyderco hole which allows one hand opening, very handy  when the other hands full and the finger coil that stops it closing on you fingers. I've bought most my knifes second hand but in VGC from BB so don't cost as much. Check out Shing pocket knifes :D amazing quality but cost quite a bit. Recently bought a K'roo from from Will the maker in South Africa, very good price and quality but waiting list is about 6 months.

I understand your point but at least it was educational and almost the whole thing made use of rather than just hitting it with a rock for no reason then discarded... now everyone can consider snake a survival food and knows you can drink a cocktail of your own piss and snake entrails out of a snakeskin lol.

I personally like the chap and would recommend his autobiography. He knows his shit(literally :p) and isn't afraid to demo it so people can learn. If it makes you feel any better though, snake-kind got revenge on the producer...

Biting the heads of snakes is cruel and unnecessary.... Reptiles have a totally different metabolism than us being ectotherms thier brains can live for upto 15 minutes when removed from thier bodies...total brain destruction is the most humane method ...i agree he knows his stuff but no need to beat a boa to death with a stick just to make a program ...
Also joe public generally cannot tell a constrictor from a venomous species and would inevitably be bitten and killed without the correct identification ....

The deep pocket clip is what almost swayed me to the purchase. Spyderco have the position spot on for the clip making it very comfortable in the pocket, easy to get to and suitably concealed to avoid panic of the public.
Besides the price, the only reason I went for the opinel no3 for my everyday knife was the look. Its not a scary looking knife in the slightest so ive had no problems whipping it out in public for general use and keeping it on my desk in work alongside a gerber dime mini multi-tool - Whereas the spyderco is quite tactical looking so would raise questions and public safety concerns as to "the crazy man with the scary yet completely legal knife cutting an apple" lol.

How do you end up using one of these "daily"?
Ive never felt the need to carry a knife, never though "damn, if only I had a blade right now".

Mears is great at bushcraft and tracking but thats it, and his programs leaned more towards a history lesson than actual skills. His programs did little in the sense of persuading kids to get outside and have an adventure which is were BG wins. His programs make you wanna go outside and get lost in the woods, whereas all ray mears programs make me want to do is make wood pidgeon and nettle stew on a campfire. Hence the scouts getting grylls in as chief scout instead.

As to the hotel event...his family had flown out to see him for one reason or another and it was a good few weeks since hed last seen his wife and kids. Anybody would do the same in that position. Theyre making a tv program, not genuinely stuck in a jungle. Mears just had a stroll in the park compared to what bg has got himself and his team into. Whether he spent the night out there or not, he gets my vote.

Theyre not needed in a sense of having to rely on it. Its more for convenience and efficiency.
Assuming your asking regarding the knife rather than the mini multi-tool I have with me too - just in the last few weeks in my workplace alone (office sort of environment) ive used it for opening those stupid plastic blister packaging things, cutting an unsliced barmcake for my lunch, sharpening a pencil, cutting off stray thread from clothing, cutting apples, preparing strawberries and as a makeshift toothpick after a run in with a sesame seed.

All tasks I could probably have done with something else or just my hands but with much more difficulty. If you have one with you at all times, youd be suprised how much youd use it.

Taking the thread back a bit but does anyone have permissions anywhere for a spot of hunting. I have had air guns from being a kid. I currently have a ratcatcher and a hatsan at44 pcp. Currently only shooting in garden but looking to get into a bit of hunting.

Ray takes a look into the actual cultures and beliefs of the people who he visits, fascinating how skills are passed from generation to generation, people who in our eyes who only live a simple existence, but where the simplest of tasks i.e lighting a fire can mean the difference between life and death to them.

As for out and out survival, I reckon Lofty Wiseman is the expert, he's been doing it for years and wrote the books.

Both of them will say only take what you need from Mother Nature and not an ounce more :)

I have, yesterday morning lol opening a parcel in my dressing gown, instinctively reach for my jeans pocket and think "damn, knife in my jeans upstairs" I hate when I change my pants for whatever reason and forget my EDC. I use my knife most days and its good to know I've always got one on me, just like a pen I carry.

    Lol.
    I don't even carry a pen.
Trusty garage door key opens parcels great.
Tbh I probably would find loads of uses if I had one.
But as I dont I just use other every day objects.
Bit like my favourite screwdriver at work.
An old stanley medium flat blade ive had for years that can not only turn screws, but is a mini crowbar, light hammer, ruler, cutter, etc etc.
Its lived in my side pocket for the best part of 20 years!
You can fix fuckin loads with a screwdriver and a shifter.
