After being fobbed off with loads of incorrect diagnosis i am at a crossroads with my Mk7 85PS transit.
Symptoms are or were eratic tickover when cold, but more worrying is it sometimes going into limp mode.
It feels like its running out of fuel, no warning lights or noises, just loses power and the harder you accelerate the slower it goes.
its perfect upto 1500rpm just before the green zone, then can either boost slowy to 2500rpm, or boost normally then suddenly cut boost and slow down.
the van can be fine for a week, then one day do it every single time i drive it. sometimes you can reset the ignition to clear it and its fine, other times it makes no difference.

No fault codes show, its had a new EGR, new MAP sensor, new MAF sensor, and its becoming a bit tedious now let alone dangerous, with often seems to go slow on the motorways.

I know it had a ECU upgrade and forced re-learn / counters reset, it made no difference.

So anything else worth looking at myself ?

actuater are are main problem on this vans also check the pressure release valve

Thanks, now ford did mention the pressure release valve, and thinking about it, it does sound like if its broken, then the fuel rail pressure could be all over the place hence why sometimes it boost all the way normally, other times slowly like its running out of fuel.

    what is the actuater ?

all turbos have one unless a boy racer has got his hands on it and stuck an aftermarket blow off valve on

WILL GO THROUGH A FEW THINGS WHEN YOU PICK EXHAUST UP. ANY SIGNS OF OIL UNDER THE INTERCOOLER?

it will be on the turbo which is located on the outlet exhaust manifold so pop bonnet and you should see it

Cheers Carl, no idea mate, no oil leaks for sure, i checked the turbo air intake pipe and that was secure (it did look a bit wet around it) and cleaned the MAP and MAF sensors, the MAP sensor was bogging, made no difference but it does tick over nice and evenly now.
fuel pressure relief valve does seem to be a common theme for these, but it also appears they need ford to fit and reset the counters or will blow the new one to bits too.

i would suggest the fuel inlet metering valve on the back of the pump it causes all sorts of problems but never brings up codes it is also worth checking the pressure release valve on the back of the rail the best way to check it is take it off if its in one piece its good.

    thanks guys, appreciate the offer.
I just spoke to evans halshaw here in chester, and they did say that this van needs a fuel pressure relief valve - it was on record that it was diagnosed and the previous owner was advised but never had the work carried out.
So - just awaiting a price for a supply and fit of the valve and software counters reset and pump learn / calibration.

Thing is, if it goes to ford and it doesn't cure the problem then where do i stand ? i don't mind paying so long as it sorts the problem.

bloody modern diesels are too complicated and all this EGR and emissions crap doesn't half cause some headaches.

Shit in fuel tank blocking the outlet to the pump ?
Common as fuck here at work.
Does it have a priming pump under the bonnet ?
These suck in when the tanks got shit in it.

if the pressure relief valve has gone its usually caused by high pressure in the rail which is caused by the inlet metering valve on the pump. Its a common problem i look after a fleet of 34 mk7 tranists and near every single one has done one

Was what I was gonna suggest. As no fault codes are showing. Also explains the erratic nature.
Have you noticed any difference after filling up or when the tank is low?

I've had a jelly like substance block the fuel outlet, with similar performance issues.

This does sound like the cause.

After speaking to someone at evans halshaw in chester, it was hinted that last time my van was in, it was forced a ECU upgrade and pump learn, so with these fix's in the ECU a new pressure relief valve shouldnt explode like this one has likely done inside the rail and fix the issue.
the erratic tickover was the MAP sensor being gunked up big time.

yeah the map sensors do get full of gunk i clean them as part of my service routine. Just out of interest how many miles has it done? and have you ever had the injectors tested?

currently on 129k full ford history, had an EGR at 119k had big service at 123k
never had the injectors done as far as i am aware.
would these be symptomatic of erratic low power and not just fail or smoke like buggery ? i have to say it's never been a smoker.

just driven it from cheshire oaks to the other size of chester, was ok until you go for max throttle, if you use part throttle and drive so smoothly on and off the throttle you can almost drive around it and feed the boost in which can come in stutters
very very similar to running out of fuel on your bike really.
