Hi ladies and gents. How do you know if the fuel pumps broke. My bike starts. Theres fuel cumin from my tank. Throught the pipe. Runs freely. But then it runs for about 30 seconds before it drops in revs and starts to cut out. Judders like its got no furl going to the engine. Which makes me think its the fuel pump. Any help
Get a multimetre onto your Reg/rec. I just had exactly the same problem and it's turned out to be that.
Blocked fuel filter possiblt but also check your reserve dial on the left hand side hasn't been turned to RES. A lack of spark will give those symptoms though. Floods the engine with unburnt fuel. All you need for combustion is fuel, air and spark. From what you've said you have fuel and air - check the electrical side of things now. Alternator and/or reg/rec.
This is a quote from Lee that explained it to me "The reg rec firstly rectifies the voltage (converts from ac to dc) then regulates it. The voltage should increase to a peak of about 14.5v (give or take) at about 50% of revs. If there is no increase then there is nothing coming from the reg rec. The tell tale signs of a fooked reg rec are either no voltage increase, or a massive voltage increase as you pile on the coals. Ie its not regulating correctly." If the reg rec isnt supplying the correct voltage the bike will run as you've described. They're usually located on the frame behind the rear fairing. A quick check on the battery with a multimeter when the bike is idling on and revving will either show this as the issue, or eliminate ot from your list of possible issues
FFS Lee dont go confusing Nicky ..he will now be adjusting it and firing the bike up to see if it works...
Oh i nod lol. Getting a bit baffled by it all now but will get it sorted. Am sure its a fuel problem somewhere and iam hoping to god its the fuel pump. Easiest option. And then i wanna change th plugs? Any thing will help the old girl
The fuel filters on these block up with crap Nicky , you would be better changing that , running fresh fuel and trying to fire her up then , when was the bike last fully serviced ?
It is unlikely to be the fuel pump, the gravity feed from the tank is more than enough to keep the fuel level high enough for tickover. If the fuel pump is goosed it will show up at higher revs when riding usually over 60 in top, as the engine requires more fuel than gravity can feed. The reason the pump is there is because the carb bowls are small and require a higher flow to maintain the correct level. What you could have however is a blockage in the pump or a build up of water which raises the level in the pump and reduces the flow. To check the pump is working start the engine and put a finger on the pump, you should feel it click regularly.
Bike got serviced last october. But good news. Ive sorted it. I took the fuel filter and fuel pump off. Cleaned the lines. Blew through the filter. Emptied the tank. Then filled it bk up with fresh fuel. Charged the battery. And it started yesterday. (Saturday). And it ticked over well. Spluttered a bit but think that was because furl was being dragged through. So going to go for a ride this afternoon. Prob up to rivington barn. So if anyones going i may bump into u. Thanks for the advise guys really apericiate it
I went at about 3 30 and it were rammed. So had a drink n a mars n went for a ride over the tops. Rivi to the black dog. Lovely
