finally got the water injection dialed in ..i can run 9 psi with no audible dettonation..i am ready for a custome tune on a dynomometer at last.. my next post should be the dyno readout :w00t:

i am booked in with dan on tuesdey ..after a small chat its obviouse he knows his stuff and we are both looking forward to squeezing some ponies out of the r1.. realisticly i will be made up with 230 at the wheel.but if it makes more i will be like a dog with tho dics

so.... how did it go..... well it didnt........first we put the bike on the dynomometer and strapped the beast down .got the bike warmed up and set the idle and base fuel pressure.dan explained the baisics on how the dyno works cos hes letting me do all the progressive testing and manual dyno controll while he does all the teck stuff on the pc... so he went for a p*ss and i did me first run just to see where the boost is set at..didnt go past 10 thou cos i sh*t meself..its a very strange feeling hearing and feeling the bike go to 10 thou without moving you just expect it to take off onto the wall..... so the next run i took it to 4 thou ,held it steady then wanged the throttle and it rose steadily to 7 thou then all hell broke loose ..it shot to11 thou quicker than i could drop the throttle..this thing is fierce i thought to myself. then i saw the room fill with blue smoke and everything was shut down as i thought the worst...blown motor.. to my releif a coupple of small errors caused the turbo to overheat causing it to partialy seise. if the turbo cant spin fast enough the oil runs past the seals and into the exhaust. we came to the conclusion that an inadequate oil supply and not having water feed and return caused the turbo to bind up and over heat. the fact that its in a room and not blasting down the road doesnt help either. even with two big fans you just cant get the same air flow..so the task for this week is a turbo rebuild and ballance with a cooling kit and a bigger oil restrictor.. luckily the shaft is ok .so just new seals and bearings.itl be back on the road in a week or so View attachment 1264 View attachment 1265 View attachment 1266 you can just make out how small the wrong restrictor is
the turbo is back together and refitted ,minus the compressor.now the turbo core is water cooled it will be cool as a cucumber even on the slowest rides.i am also planing on fitting an on off switch on the rad fan to help coolin on the dyno... small problem cropped up after puttin the banjo bolt on the charger core...the bloody oil filter doesnt fit any more.its the same old story of fixing one problem creates three others.spoke to a buddy with a laithe and hes goin to make a plate to relocate the oil filter... spent this afternoon with me new best mate ,,,bill . who is an engineering genius.he showed me how to design in 3d on the pc the part that will go where the oil filter was and will have two hoses going to the relocated oil filter..the design looks like it will work .but the proof is in the pud..we are goin to start makin stuff on wed,, View attachment 1272
the project seems to have come to a standstill lately.been waitin for me mate to make the oil filter relocation plate on the lathe { three weeks }. he decided to change it from single phase to 3 phase and it hasnt worked since..git. i could have made a crude but functional part meself with a pillar drill and some npt fittings.any whooo. i have been asured ...again that it will be done by the end of this week..because i have been overcome with boredom with not having a working bike and no real work on the turbo to do.i have fitted a truely splendid set of blue leds under the yolks..any opinions welcome ,,to cheesy or cool and funky..oh yeah put a switch on the fan so it still comes on when it reaches 103 and i can have it on permanently i when on the dyno View attachment 1284 its not a great pic cos you cant see the blue with the flash on
