We have come to the unfortunate decision to disable our Tapatalk plugin. After extensive searching, it has come to light that there are a few vulnerabilities with the software. Some of which are yet to be addressed by the developers. Whilst we can't put the blame on Tapatalk for our recent downtime, taking these issues into consideration, we have to put the forum first and do what we can to protect the stability and security of the site. Paul
Shocking for a vulnerability to come from such a high end app. Any plans to use anything else instead or wait until tapatalk sort it out?
Like I said, I'm not blaming Tapatalk directly. It looks like there's a few bugs in the software which are causing some security issues. Tapatalk have been dismissing them as serious threats however, they haven't been able to address the issues since February. I'f I'm being honest, I'm not being overwhelmed with confidence. I'll look into alternatives. That being said, anyone is free to suggest other options.
I find tapatalk easier to use, but if it causes extra work / more grief for Paul then fair enough... mobile view is fine
I only use it to put pictures on as its easier.. The regular forum does hammer data though on a mobile..
i had a notification this morning about the plugin i use on my sites - i have to say i personally fucking hate tapatalk. it has a memory leak i am sure and ever since i was running it on mine it needs a IIS service refresh every week. remove tapatalk and all is fine again. anyway i digress - this is what i got today. Dear Tapatalk Partner, This message is to notify you of a security vulnerability that was found earlier this year in the Tapatalk plug-in. The issue involves a cross-site scripting vulnerability that may allow a third party to manipulate the content or behavior of a web application in a user's browser, without compromising the underlying system. While our engineering team and other security apps have classified this as a low risk item and have not received any reports of compromised systems, we still recommend that you update your forum's Tapatalk plugin to the latest version available on our website. Plug-ins versions that have been patched: vBulletin 3 v4.4.1 vBulletin 4 v5.0.1 phpBB 3 v4.4.1 IPB 3.4 v3.9.1 SMF 2 v3.9.5 Xenforo v2.0.4 MyBB v3.9.1 Kunena3 v1.1.5 Vanilla v1.4.2 WBB4 V1.0.1 If your forum platform is not listed above, it is not vulnerable to the cross site scripting issue. If you have any questions, please reply to this message and let us know. We will only be communicating this issue via email to avoid broadcasting the existence of the vulnerability and putting forum owners who have not yet updated in unnecessary risk. Thank You, Ken Hsu Community Manager Tapatalk inc.
