    Hi all,
I have some close friends who run a small motorcycle training business in Bury ( based by the Bury Football Ground @ Gigg Lane), I saw them today, was discussing the NWB forums & what a lovely bunch of folks are on here. I know times are hard, I know good training can be expensive, so I asked them if there was any way that they could offer a discount of some sort to NWB members who are yet to complete their training. Anyway, long story short (bit like me) they are willing to offer anyone from NWB a 5% discount off any of their training packages... All you need to do is give them a call & quote Indi as a reference to claim your discount... I'm not going to try to sell you my opinion of their school, I'm simply going to give you the link to their website & let you make up your own mind, I think the testimonials speak for themselves...

If you have any questions at all or need any further information, feel free to PM me or post on here & I'll help where I can. I suspect there may be a few of you on here who completed your training with them in the past, if that's the case, feel free to add your 10p worth as to the training & care you received from them... Indi

I did my direct access with focus and thought they were excellent! Paul has been biking for donkeys years and knows his stuff, took the CBT bit with him, very professional and a really great bloke.
Jeff and Laura were spot on and very organised, jeff took me for my mod1 and mod2.
Now at bury But cover a wide area.
Also run a basic bike maintenance course.

Take advantage of what they offer

One instructor told me to slow down/almost stop on the approach to the roundabout (the logical choice) and the other told me not to do if theres a space my bike would fit in as i'll be marked for undue hesitation. On the way to the test this morning i was told my bike had a faulty speedo, after numerous checks i was told it was out by approx 5mph, so to go 5ish faster than the speed i want, got there today, failed as i was doing 26 in 20 zones and over 35 in 30 zones. Absolute joke.

I agree with smudger in that is thier fault and should pay your mod 2 re test. Sounds amateur with the speedo and instruction.
The roundabout approach I can understand, they were a nightmare at first for me. Just use common sense approach slowly but go on if you can "fit in" but you also need to be able to stop if needed.
Focus were good and fitted my training in well. Got me through it all.
I had a bike school nearer than focus, but heard different tales. But now heard they are good too!
You won't always see eye to eye but overall if you get good instruction all good.

    Good luck mate!

Why did someone suddenly decide your bike had a faulty speedo on the way to test, surely they could of picked this up during your training if it's true?
How did they check your speedo?

The new instructor that took me to the mod 2 kept telling me i was doing 25/26 in a 30 zone, but i always ensure i'm doing around 31, never been an issue before, kept
insisting his bike had a "properly calibrated speedo" and
compared it to mine. Not i have to pay 150 to redo it, Thinking of just leaving and getting another school to fine tune my riding or just buying a restricted 600 and having a friend ride it to the test centre if its possible to do it this way, i'll have to look it up.

Peter, I agree with the guys...the bike that you have paid to take your tests on should be fit for purpose.. And giving that they knew something was amiss prior to your test, they should have either provided you with a different machine that was fully functional... Or cancelled your test ( at their cost ofc until they could sort the speedo problem out) conflicting advice isn't great..different styles of teaching are a given in every area of education due to the fact that we are all human & not programmed machines.. But the subject specifics should be uniform.. . As fully qualified instructors they should all know fine well the requirements for your tests & should be all 'singing from the same hymn sheet'... I guess it depends on how you feel now as to whether you carry on with them or not... The choices you have are to either get your money back ( which to be perfectly honest you may not get... Though you would be quite within your rights to take them to small claims court personally, filling in/ lodging your own paperwork that you would get from the court.. If you were successful in your pursuit your costs would be reimbursed too) or your other choice would be to carry on with them on the proviso that they cover the cost if your resit of your Mod2... I certainly would NOT pay more of your hard earned cash out to resit with them, giving the circumstances.. Just my 2p worth
